President Obamas’ Attempt at “You Tube Diplomacy” Will Hurt U.S.
When I saw the attempt by President Obama to appeal to the Iranian people through the use of a You Tube video, I shuddered. The entire thing seems trivial, demeaning to the office of the president, pointless and dangerous. Appealing to Iran and attempting to make them feel the “warm fuzzies” toward us, through the use of You Tube, is ridiculous.
If The U.S. Is “Satan”, Will Islam Have A Dialogue With “Satan”?
In the eyes of people like the Khamenei and Ahmadinejad, the president of Iran, the U.S. is “satan” and “evil”. How can you reason with that sort of religious fanaticism? They, along with other extremist islamic groups, have called for the complete anihilation of the nation of Israel and the destruction of the United States. Has that attitude faded? Their hatred is directed toward western culture, in general and the U.S. in particular as the icon of the culture they hate and want to eradicate. Do you honestly think placating them and reaching out to them is going to make a difference in their fanatic fervor to destroy the west? They HATE us Mr. President. Get that through your head!
This kind of soothing, ”We Are The World” attitude is the same kind of thing President Carter tried in the late 70′s, and we had U.S. citizens held hostage for 444 days during his administration. Where did all of Carters “milque toast” sniveling get us? A miserable attempt at a rescue! Did America gain respect from that nightmarish fiasco? No, we only taught the world that the U.S. was weak and its’ president was ineffectual and terrorism had its’ rewards. Terrorism has been a rising threat since then and weakness increases it. Showing a sign of weakness is a sure way to draw the jackals in for the kill, and they are waiting for that sign.
Iran Reacts In Typical Fashion To Obamas’ Video
For all of his effort, Obama got a typical reaction from the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. It was a reaction of disdain, ridicule and threats of gods vengence. No surprise there.
The kind of placatory groveling that Obama displays is the same sort of “diplomacy” Chamberlain excercised when he thought he had obtained “peace in our time” with Hitler, shortly before the Nazis’ started their all out assault to conquer Europe. It took the resolution of men like Churchill and the might of the U.S. military to put Hitler in his place, it will take the same resolve and strength to defeat radical Islam, not pie-in-the-sky, “feel good” diplomacy. In fact, modern Islamic terrorism and anti-Jewish sentiment has its’ roots in the relationship between Hitler and the “Grand Mufti” Al Husseini. You cannot win against a Hitler with Chamberlain tactics, and those tactics will not work on radical islamic terrorists and the nations, like Iran, who support them.
In the same way Hitler seemed to accept the overtures of Chamberlain and then proceeded to spit in the face of Britain, groups like Hamas seem to welcome the new words, with a caveat. They want a weakening of ties between Israel and the U.S. Of course they don’t want to wreck their chances of possibly getting their hands on a billion dollars in aid as well. Once the money is in their hands, and the time is right? Expect more acidic rhetoric and continued terrorist attacks against Israel and the west.
The Only Way To Win The Hearts And Minds Of Radical Islamists Is To Hand Over The U.S. and Israel
No President Obama you will never win the hearts and minds of radical islamics like Iran unless you turn over our nation to them. But utimately, the kind of weakness already shown by your administration will eventually do just that. Defeating radical islamic terrorism and securing the safety of our country requires something more, a lot more.
President Reagan brought about the fall of the Soviet Union through his “peace through strength” policy. It was his thinking (and history bore him out) that the only way to achieve victory over the “evil empire” was for the United States to re-arm herself (after Carter had decimated the military) and stand with weapons at the ready to defend and protect liberty around the world. That kind of leadership resulted in the fall of the Soviet empire and freedom for eastern Europe and former Soviet states.
There is a lesson to be learned from President Reagan and it is this. It will take firm resolve, clear leadership, military strength and active intelligence efforts to defeat terrorism and its’ supporters, not “You Tube Diplomacy”.

Thanks for the great resource
Thank you!
I don’t believe the way to reach peoples and influence foreign governments is using Social Media outlets. It requires “old school” diplomacy and statesmanship. One thing is for certain, we will see more of this as time goes on until it is proven a poor venue for policy.
Great article. Thanks for the great resource.
Thank you. I think we are seeing the fruits of Obamas You Tube diplomacy in what is happening in Iran today. With a weak president presenting the U.S. as wishy-washy and uncommitted to core principles, the whole world is on fire.
We need strength and a solid stand on principles of right and wrong. Only by being the beacon of human rights and moving to forward those ideals throughout the world, will we ever see an advancement of freedom.
Spouting platitudes and hoping they become reality has never achieved results. The “pen” may be mightier than the sword, but the sword must sometimes be called upon to back the “pen”.
